LGBTQ History Month
Every October, the Student Life Multicultural Center recognizes LGBTQ History Month and sponsors a month-long series of events that highlight and celebrate LGBTQ+ communities of the past and the present through programming, visibility campaigns, and educational events. LGBTQ History Month focuses on developing a sense of belonging and empowerment for the LGBTQ community. We highlight and celebrate the vast history of LGBTQ communities across campus and globally.

At Ohio State, there are many interesting programs and presentations throughout the month, and every year we compile these events in a University-wide calendar. We welcome you to participate in LGBTQ History Month celebrations.

Pride Plant Sale

OSU College of Veterinary Medicine Pride will be fundraising with a plant sale, with a portion of the funds being given to Kaleidoscope Youth Center.

Open Workshop: Safe Zone
Thursday, October 7, 2021, 12 - 2 PM
The Safe Zone Training aims to create a more welcoming and safe campus for individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities. This 2 hour workshop is recommended for faculty, staff, and students. Registration is required. To register, go to: go.osu.edu/opensafezone. Participants who fully complete this workshop can receive a Safe Zone sticker or magnet.

Multicultural Center - What’s Your Story Lounge
Happy National Coming Out Day! Whether you're coming out for the first time or the millionth, celebrate NCOD with the Student Life Multicultural Center. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to come to the front lounge of the MCC to have an “out & fabulous” photo taken that can be shared on social media, including in a digital collection to be shared during the keynote later this month, or simply as a token of personal pride. All participants will receive a “History Maker” t-shirt to commemorate LGBTQ History Month
National Coming Out Day: The Coming Out Monologues

Whether you are out to everyone, a few friends, or only yourself -- everyone has a coming out story! The Coming Out Monologues is an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ students at Ohio State to share their stories of coming out and living authentically. The Coming-Out Narrative in Latinx Media (DICE)

This presentation explores how through the creation of a global experience that subverts social norms and attempts to challenge the Latinx familial cultural schema in the US and Mexico, streaming services have been critical in opening the door to queer and non-conforming audience to cognitively and emotionally connect with their characters, and what lessons from these characters can be taken to the real-world.
LGBTQ History 101 (DICE)

Join LGBTQ Initiatives for this starter workshop on modern LGBTQ history in the US. From World War II to the legalization of same-sex marriage, we will explore important events and figures in queer and trans history. "Hello, My Pronouns Are . . . "

Join the College of Social Work and Student Life Multicultural for this hybrid workshop on LGBTQ identities, the importance of pronouns, and the history of LGBTQ folks in the social work profession. Documentary and Discussion: MAJOR!

MAJOR! explores the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a formerly incarcerated Black transgender elder and activist who has been fighting for the rights of trans women of color for over 40 years. Miss Major is a veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion and a survivor of Attica State Prison, a former sex worker, an elder, and a community leader and human rights activist. Join Women and LGBTQ Student Initiatives for the screening and a discussion about queer and trans women of color, intersectionality, and how to be allies and advocates for all our sisters, not just our cisters.
Queering SFL: LGBQ+ Identities in Sororities and Fraternities

This presentation features perspectives on how LGBQ+ students experience their sexual orientation identity in sorority and fraternity life (SFL). We will explore the various ways these members experience SFL and what influence these contexts have on their sexual identity development. Lastly, we will provide ways that practitioners and organizations can best support LGBQ+ members.
Learning the Lessons of the Marriage-Equality Movement: LGBT History Month

Authors and educators Sasha Issenberg and Timothy Stewart-Winter will discuss the history of the gay marriage movement and the lessons we can all learn and apply towards social change in the future.

Open Workshop: Creating LGBTQ Inclusive Classrooms

The Student Life Multicultural Center offers this training to facilitate faculty and staff in creating more inclusive spaces for LGBTQ students. What's in the Plus: Beyond the Basics of the LGBTQ+ Community

Hosted asynchronously by the Equitas Health Institute. This training is intended as an introduction to sexual and gender minorities that are typically grouped together in the “plus” of LGBTQ+, including but not limited to intersex folks, asexual and aromantic individuals, and pansexual people.
