Every October, nations around the world recognize LGBTQ History Month, with many organizations and individuals offering events that highlight and celebrate LGBTQ+ communities of the past and the present through programming, visibility campaigns, and educational events. LGBTQ History Month focuses on developing a sense of belonging and empowerment for the LGBTQ community. We highlight and celebrate the vast history of LGBTQ communities across campus and globally.

Coming Out for Community

To kickoff LGBTQ History Month, join the Center for Belonging and Social Change for our dinner social and story sharing event, Coming Out for Community! This event is open to all LGBTQ Buckeyes and allies to connect and celebrate. The night will also feature The Coming Out Monologues, an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and faculty at Ohio State to share their stories of coming out and living authentically. With any remaining time, there will be an open mic for anyone to come up and share their coming out story!

National Coming Out Day: Out & Fabulous Photo Op

Happy National Coming Out Day! Whether you're coming out for the first time or the millionth, celebrate NCOD with the LGBTQmmunity, a new student organization focused on creating community among LGBTQ+ students . Students, faculty, and staff are invited to stop by the front lounge of the CBSC to decorate their own coming out sign, then have an “out & fabulous” photo taken with some pride props. If you donate your sign to us, we'll hang it up anonymously in the CBSC to show off the diversity of our community!
Trans Leadership and Advocacy Panel

This event will feature a panel of trans students, parents, staff, and alumni moderated by USG's Justice and Equity deputy directors. The panelists will discuss being trans in Ohio and on campus, as well as what alliance and advocacy by cis folks for trans folk looks like moving forward.

This is an event for all LGBTQ+ student orgs on campus to be visible and approachable, as well as offer students the opportunity to get more involved with campus activities in queer life at a peak time in the semester for recruitment.
Community Night

This fun night will feature crafts, trivia, snacks, and community time for LGBTQ+ students. There will also be a donation drive for Kaleidoscope Youth Center and Stonewall Columbus.
Queer Excellence Night

This is THE event to celebrate queer life at OSU as we culminate a week long of events to celebrate queer life and history on campus! The event will feature drag performers, a vogue and lip-sync competition, and will feature queer artists. This event is a collaboration between USG and Scarlet and Gay LGBTQ+ Alumni Society.

Join the Newark Ohio Pride Coalition on October 4 to kick off a weekend of Pride events in honor of LGBTQIA+ History Month. Our Licking County officials continue to deny our requests to light the courthouse in honor of pride so we will keep showing up (and lighting it up) until they do. Don't forget to bring those flashlights folks!
